When to use
  • Hypernatraemia >145 mmol/L — identify and treat underlying cause
  • HHS — alongside corrected sodium for fluid planning
  • Neurogenic diabetes insipidus — estimate ongoing losses
  • Never correct faster than 10 mmol/L/day (risk of cerebral oedema)
