Mean Arterial Pressure MAP
MAP reflects average perfusion pressure throughout the cardiac cycle. Target ≥65 mmHg in septic shock (Surviving Sepsis Campaign).

Blood Pressure
mmHg
Formula
MAP = DBP + (1/3 × (SBP - DBP))
Or: MAP = (SBP + 2×DBP) / 3
Normal: 70–100 mmHg
Sepsis target: ≥65 mmHg
When to use
- Septic shock — vasopressor titration target MAP ≥65 mmHg
- Hypertensive emergencies — assessing end-organ perfusion
- TBI — cerebral perfusion pressure monitoring (target CPP ≥60)
- Post-cardiac arrest care — haemodynamic targets
